About the Author:
Jonathan Safran Foer is widely known for his novels, “Everything is Illuminated” and “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.” A “mostly vegetarian,” After the birth of his son, he wanted to dig into the realities of life with animals.
Overall Plot:
The book is not simply another vegan or vegetarian cheerleading, meat shaming book. This book took many years to write and includes exhaustive research. Foer examines heritage turkey farming, factory chicken farms, pig farming, slaughterhouse and highlights farms such as Niman Ranch as an organization that is doing it right.
Personal Take Away:
If there is one book you read about factory farming, make it this one. His beautiful writing style is very easy to read even though the content can still be hard to digest at times. I loved his measures approach and almost objective exploration of the meat industry. I respect this book and am thankful to have read it.
