Homemade Play dough or “Play-Doh”

The weather here has been much chillier than usual. We love it, but taking a toddler and a newborn outside in 32 degree rain is not recommended. So we are working in our indoor fun- hence the play dough. It was a super simple fun project for my little one and I to do in about 20 minutes while the baby slept. Major bonus, we could make any color we wanted! Like teal!

2 c flour
1 c salt
2 c warm water
1 tbsp cream of tartar
2 tbsp vegetable oil
Food coloring
Disposable gloves

Add water and salt to a medium pot on low heat and whisk to partially dissolve salt.

Add flour, cream of tartar and oil and stir well with a wooden spoon until it resembles play dough, about 5 minutes. Let dough cool for 5 minutes in a bowl.

Separate dough into 3-5 sections and add desired amount of food coloring (I used 10-20 depending on the color.) to the middle of the dough.

Get your gloves on then mix the coloring into the dough with your hands. Or have your kiddos do this part with gloved hands.

Voila! Happy kids, happy fun winter project.
