Warm Spiced Apple Cider

Apples are all around us lately and I love it. I saw the unfiltered apple juice at trader joes and decided to add my own mix of fruits and spices and see what happens. The results were warm, a little spicy and smell amazing.A big favorite and liked by all. Realtors should have this on the stove instead of cookies in the ocen when they want to sell a house. We added a little water to my daughter’s, as we do with any juice and we all sat sipping our mugs as the rain came down this weekend.

6 cups organic unfiltered apple juice
1 organic naval orange
1 organic lemon
5 whole cloves
2 dashes nutmeg
2 cinnamon sticks + more for serving
2 tbsp brown sugar, coconut sugar or maple syrup (optional)
Fine mesh strainer

Add apple juice and all spices to a sauce pot over medium heat.

Peel three strips of orange and two strips of lemon, add to pot.

Quarter orange, squeeze juice into pot and discard. Halve lemon, squeeze juice of just one half into pot and discard.

Simmer on low for 30 minutes then taste for sweetness. Add the brown sugar, coconut sugar or maple syrup to taste and strain out solids with a fine mesh strainer.
Serve with a cinnamon stick and enjoy the cooler weather wherever you are.
