Delicious Apple Pie Smoothie (Paleo, vegan and raw)

Our local Central Market has come alive with quite an array of apples. I’ve tried a few new varietals every week for a few weeks and am nowhere close to having tasted a quarter of the lot. I have enjoyed making our own applesauce with them and now we’ve used apples to make a smoothie that leaves you quite content. Apples, cashews and almond (or dairy) milk commingle with pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice) and a little flax seed to make you appreciate all the apples in your life. This smoothie works really well as a morning pick me up as it comes packed with omega-3 from the flax and 10 grams of protein from the cashews and even more protein from the almond or dairy milk. It also has all that good natural apple sugar and fiber to pep you up and keep you full until lunchtime.

Raw Apple Pie Smoothie (Paleo, gluten-free, vegan)

1 c homemade applesauce (or 1 c organic store bought or 1 large apple peeled, cored and chopped roughly)
1 c almond or dairy milk
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/4 c raw cashews
1 tbsp flax seed meal
1/2-1 tsp apple pie spice or a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice

Blend and pour in your favorite glass or mug
Sprinkle with a little cinnamon and serve with a fun straw
