I believe all smoothies should be green if possible. It’s by far one of the easiest ways to get fresh, raw greens into your body, already blended for quick absorption. Charlotte has grown up thinking that all smoothies have spinach in them and that makes them yummy! I hope the normalcy helps keep her open to the new healthy foods I introduce. (Fingers crossed.) My local market sells a salad mix called “Power Greens” and it comes with spinach, baby mizuna, baby chard and baby kale. In one serving, you get 130% of your vitamin A, 35% iron, 60% of vitamin c, 2 g fiber and 2 g protein. Add in an additional cup of spinach and you add up to over 300% of vitamin A and over 100% of vitamin c. You can’t get much better than that. I add some orange juice (more vitamin c!) to compensate for the taste of the greens, to ensure it still tastes yummy.
1 1/2 c power greens
1-2 c spinach
1 fresh or frozen banana
4 ice cubes
A few handfuls of organic strawberries, tops cut off
1- 11/2 c coconut milk
1/2 c orange juice, fresh squeezed if possible
1/2 c plain whole milk yogurt (sub soy yogurt for paleo and vegan)
1 tbsp flax meal or ground flax seeds
1 tbsp natural sweetener of choice
Blend, share and enjoy!
