“My sweet mom, known by her grandchildren as “Gee”, is a clinical social worker and a mind-body-medicine therapist. She believes that in many ways, our health and wellness are directly tied to stress. Back in 2008, I posted the following exercise in the Confessions section, and I still get emails from folks who tried it and adopted it as a regular stress-relieving activity. I can attest that when I’m disciplined about doing this breathing exercise on a regular basis, everything about me feels better. (I just have to remember to do it.) I thought I’d share it here today for those of you who missed it.

Here’s my mom’s old tutorial. (Note that I did not say “my old mom’s tutorial!” There’s a difference.)

I hope she helps make your Tuesday more relaxing and stress free.

Hi, guys—it’s Gee, Ree’s mom, and I want to talk about breathing today.

Breathing: what could be more automatic? Why would I write a tutorial on breath? Well, believe it or not, it’s because your breath is one of the most powerful tools you possess for improving your health.
